On behalf of our Client from the US, Mobilunity is looking for a Principal Solution Architect.

We are looking for a Principal Solution Architect to lead multiple engineering teams while remaining actively involved in technical architecture and strategic engineering decisions. This role is ideal for an experienced engineering leader who enjoys developing high-performing teams, defining technical standards, and driving successful delivery across complex ecommerce platforms.

As a Principal Solution Architect, you will shape engineering practices across the organization, mentor engineering managers and technical leaders, establish architectural direction, and ensure consistent delivery excellence in a distributed, asynchronous work environment. While the role is primarily leadership-focused, approximately 20–30% of your time will remain hands-on, providing architectural guidance and supporting critical technical initiatives.

Responsibilities:

Engineering Leadership

• Lead multiple distributed engineering teams, ensuring successful delivery, high engineering standards, and predictable execution.
• Manage, mentor, and develop engineering managers, technical leads, and software architects.
• Build a strong engineering leadership organization and coach leaders on communication, technical decision-making, and cross-functional collaboration.
• Drive engineering excellence by improving development workflows, documentation standards, coding practices, and technical processes.
• Establish scalable engineering standards, architecture guidelines, and development practices across teams.
• Continuously improve software quality, delivery efficiency, and engineering culture.

Frontend Architecture

• Design and own frontend architectures using Next.js, React, and TypeScript for enterprise commerce implementations.
• Define architecture patterns, rendering strategies, state management, caching, scalability, and performance best practices.
• Deeply evaluate and make architectural decisions around SSR, React Server Components, edge computing, and serverless patterns.
• Document key architectural decisions through Architecture Decision Records (ADRs).
• Participate hands-on in complex technical initiatives and architectural discussions when required.
• Identify architectural risks and prevent architectural drift when implementation diverges from the intended design.

Delivery & Technical Planning

• Break large epics into implementable stories with clear acceptance criteria.
• Identify technical dependencies, risks, and complexity and provide realistic estimates.
• Resolve technical ambiguity before work enters a sprint, ensuring engineers have sufficient technical direction to execute effectively.
• Translate complex architectural decisions into practical implementation plans for engineering teams.
• Ensure technical decisions support both short-term delivery objectives and long-term platform scalability.

Performance & Engineering Excellence

• Drive Core Web Vitals performance across delivery teams and establish measurable performance standards engineers build against in every PR.
• Define and enforce best practices for CDN configuration, caching, rendering strategies, and frontend performance.
• Identify performance bottlenecks and drive measurable improvements in application speed, scalability, and reliability.
• Establish coding standards and project conventions in formats that are clear and executable by both engineers and AI agents.

AI-Assisted & Agentic Engineering

• Establish effective AI-assisted development practices across engineering teams.
• Define standards and guidelines for AI-generated code, including review, testing, security, and maintainability expectations.
• Establish specification-driven development practices that enable AI agents to execute technical work reliably.
• Structure technical specifications, documentation, and project context so they can be effectively consumed by AI agents.
• Decompose features and engineering tasks so that agent-generated output is reviewable, testable, and reliable.
• Help teams move beyond individual AI tool usage toward consistent, team-wide agentic engineering workflows.
• Evaluate and continuously improve AI-assisted engineering practices to increase development efficiency without compromising quality.

Client & Stakeholder Collaboration

• Collaborate directly with clients during discovery to understand business requirements and translate them into scalable, pragmatic architecture roadmaps.
• Partner with Product Managers and cross-functional stakeholders to prioritize work and balance competing business objectives.
• Explain architectural decisions and technical trade-offs clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Support technical discovery, solution definition, estimation, and roadmap planning.
• Build strong relationships with clients and internal stakeholders while maintaining technical ownership of the solution.

Requirements:

• 5+ years of engineering management experience, including managing engineering managers, technical leads, software architects, or similar senior technical leaders.
• Proven experience leading multiple engineering teams and delivering complex software projects successfully.
• Proven architectural experience designing frontend systems and leading distributed engineering teams of 3+ engineers.
• Deep proficiency in Next.js, React, and TypeScript.
• Strong understanding of modern web architecture, including:
  • Next.js App Router
  • React Server Components
  • SSR strategies
  • Edge computing
  • Serverless architecture
  • State management
  • Caching
• Strong software architecture and system design skills, with experience defining architecture standards and documenting decisions through ADRs.
• Strong performance engineering expertise, including Core Web Vitals optimization, CDN configuration, caching strategies, and measurable performance improvements.
• Proven ability to translate ambiguous business requirements into scalable technical solutions and actionable engineering plans.
• Experience breaking epics into implementable stories, defining acceptance criteria, identifying dependencies, and estimating complexity.
• Experience resolving technical ambiguity and providing engineering teams with clear technical direction.
• Experience working with AI-assisted development tools and establishing AI engineering practices at a team or organizational level.
• Demonstrated experience designing workflows for agentic software development, including executable specifications, structured documentation, context management, and reviewable AI-generated output.
• Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
• Strong leadership, mentoring, stakeholder management, and decision-making skills.
• Experience working with distributed Agile teams.

Nice to have:

 

• Hands-on experience with Salesforce Commerce Cloud (SFRA, OCAPI, SCAPI).
• Experience with Shopify Plus, Hydrogen, BigCommerce, or SCAYLE.
• Familiarity with composable commerce and MACH architecture.
• Experience working with headless CMS platforms.
• Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and cloud deployment practices.
• Previous experience in e-commerce, retail technology, or digital commerce.
