Engineering Manager

Development Team

On behalf of our Client, a well-established financial institution from the Caribbean region, Mobilunity is looking for a Engineering Manager for a long-term engagement.

Our Client is the largest bank in the Caribbean region that serves 14 countries/territories. The aim is to make this organization from a traditional bank into a new era of fintech, working on the edge of what current fintech may offer.

You will work in a fully remote, globally distributed team, collaborating closely with Product Managers, Engineers, and Business stakeholders across different time zones.

This role requires a high level of autonomy, strong product thinking, and the ability to operate in ambiguity. You will proactively shape requirements, facilitate discussions, and ensure design consistency across the product ecosystem.

The Engineering Manager is responsible for leading and mentoring our technical teams, ensuring high-quality software development, and aligning the engineering team’s efforts with company goals. They will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, stakeholders, and senior leadership.

Responsibilities:

Technical Leadership:

  • Provide technical direction and guidance in line with the company’s strategic objectives.
  • Oversee architecture decisions, code reviews, and technology choices.

Team Management:

  • Hire, onboard, mentor, and provide career development planning to engineers.
  • Ensure efficient team dynamics, foster a collaborative environment, and address any challenges.
  • Conduct regular 1:1s with team members, ensuring they are motivated, challenged, and continuously learning.

Project Management:

  • Work closely with the product managers, business stakeholders, and tech leads to ensure projects are well-defined, scoped, and delivered on time.
  • Monitor team progress, recognize potential roadblocks, and provide solutions.

Quality Assurance:

  • Ensure delivery of high-quality software through rigorous development and testing processes.
  • Collaborate with QA teams to ensure effective testing practices are in place.

Stakeholder Collaboration:

  • Act as a bridge between the technical team, product managers, and other business stakeholders.
  • Regularly update stakeholders on tech developments, challenges, and solutions.

Resource Management:

  • Allocate engineering resources effectively across projects, ensuring timely delivery and optimal resource utilization.
  • Manage the engineering budget, ensuring efficient allocation of resources, tools, and technologies.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Stay updated with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices.
  • Encourage and facilitate the team in attending workshops, trainings, and conferences.
  • Promote a culture of continuous learning and innovation within the team.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field. Master’s degree is a plus
  • 5+ years of software engineering experience with a proven track record of leading engineering teams
  • Strong technical background
  • Proficient in Agile methodologies and tools
  • Exceptional leadership skills with a proven ability to motivate and guide teams
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Level of English — Upper-Intermediate and higher

Nice to have:

  • Prior experience in the banking or financial sector
  • Recognized engineering or management certification
  • Experience in scaling technical teams and infrastructure
